What is Reiki?

What is Reiki
Reiki is the Japanese word for universal life force or universal life energy. Rei meaning spirit or soul and Ki meaning life energy, or life force …also known as ch’i in Chinese, prana in Hindu and divine energy in Christianity. Reiki is an ancient healing art based on the belief that this universal life energy is present in all beings and that the transfer of Reiki energy through a Reiki practitioner to a willing recipient stimulates the body’s innate wisdom and natural ability to heal itself. It is important to realize that the Reiki practitioner is the channel that enables the recipient to use the Reiki energy to heal themselves.
Reiki was used in the orient over 3000 years ago and rediscovered by Dr Mikao Usui in the 1800’s.

Reiki is gentle, non manipulative and noninvasive. It is completely safe and natural. Reiki will also work with almost any other medical treatment you may be receiving.

What does Reiki do
Reiki helps balance the mind, body and spirit.
Our body is a finely tuned instrument which converts the air we breathe and the food we eat into energy. This energy is distributed to and used by every cell in the body. In order for the body to be in a state of wellness, all the cells must be receiving a full and continuous flow of energy or ki/ch'i to keep functioning in balance. Our bodies do an awesome job of maintaining this balance, also called homeostasis, by making adjustments within compensatory systems such as the endocrine, lymphatic and cardiovascular systems. Sometimes the balance gets so far off it exceeds our body’s ability to compensate and we experience this as pain or illness. Blocks to the flow of energy can also occur from stress and emotional issues such as anxiety and depression.

Given the right conditions, your body will heal itself and bring itself back to balance with the energy flowing freely. Other therapeutic techniques used today meant to boost your body's efforts include medication, rest, diet, surgery; all designed to help your body heal itself.

Reiki works by creating a deep generalized relaxation response like what occurs in deep sleep and meditation. While your body is in this state, it is able to heal itself. Reiki also delivers focused heat which can help remove toxins, increase immune and cardiovascular function, circulation and digestion.

Reiki energy transfer can:
● Manage/relieve pain
● Reduce stress and tension
● accelerate healing,
● bring clarity, increase awareness
● Detoxify
● Promote relaxation
● Assist and encourage self discovery and personal growth
● Promote general health
● Address an emotional state
● Aid in the removal of unwanted habits
● Promote a holistic balancing of body, mind and spirit
● Whatever the recipient chooses the experience to be for herself

What happens during Reiki session
The recipient is fully clothed and lies on a massage table with eyes closed.
The reiki practitioner using intention and gentle touch, will lightly touch or move hands over various parts of your body to concentrate the flow of energy to those areas.
The recipient may feel warmth or cold, tingling, a sense of relaxation, see colors, fall asleep, or none of these. Reiki energy works on a subtle level and effects are often felt over time, even days to weeks following the session.

Sessions generally last 45-60 minutes.
